A friend of mine has been thrown in the deep end. With what amounts to zero programming knowledge, this individual has been made a programmer (most of you might call him a developer, but we have different titles in our shop). This person is lacking in anything more than the most basic computer knowledge, and is working with other people who talk so far over his head that he often doesn''t even know how to explain what part he doesn''t understand.

I had hoped he would be made a programmer when we were still using Authorware, as that''s reasonably easy to cope with, even if you don''t know anything about computers. However, we''ve retired Authorware, and are working strictly with C#, Flash, html, xml, sql, etc.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for someone who''s been thrown in this deep and told to sink or swim? Books? Tutorials? Anything?

I think one of the easiest ways to learn something fast is to watch a video tutorial on the topics. YouTube is becoming better in terms of quality but if you really need something with "guarenteed" quality it might be worth while looking into a video suite that has been designed for different user experience levels and covers a particular language completely.

99.99 per year which I guess you could maybe have a look at (refresh the page until you see the ad banner come up at top of page). 2600 videos is pretty good for that price, I just can''t stand the guy''s voice (hope this doesn''t offend anyone) :)

I always recommend reading a book. However, looks like you dont have too much time. In this case, a video (as suggested here already) will be a good place to start.

You could also try one of those "learn in 24 hours" type books to help you get started.
