Let me guess, VS might have created the virtual directory and copied the files from the development directory.
BUT, the directory might not be marked as an application!

Go into IIS, expand the ''Web Sites'' tree, find the correct folder under ''Default Web Site'', right-click on the folder and select properties. The ''Directory'' tab has an entry labeled ''Application Name''. It must be grayed out and the text box says ''Default Application''.
Just click on the ''Create'' button and then the OK button.
