Dear Friends,


I have updated HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\ScreenSaveTimeOut property in Registry manually but its not reflected in Display Properties Windows XP GUI.

Resulting window consider the screen saver time out value as shown in GUI not the updated one in registry.

Did you also check out HKEY_USERS? It could be that it simply reads out the value of another user instead the current user. I guess this is due to policies and what not.

I have checked the whole registry including settings in HKEY_USERS too.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\SCRNSAVE.EXE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\ScreenSaverIsSecure field updation are properly reflected in GUI.

But only ScreenSaveTimeOut updation is not reflected in Display properties GUI.

But if i change ScreenSaveTimeOut from GUI, registry is updated no issue.

I have googled extensivley still sould not find ScreenSaveTimeOut updation issue solution.

But if i restart the system ScreenSaveTimeOut is updated succesfully.

Another addition to the solution...

Instead of restarting, try a call to UpdatePerUserSystemParameters to make the change effective.

You can simply test it by using the code you already got and execute the line below in the command window. After that, the value in the GUI should be updated as well.

%SystemRoot%\System32\RUNDLL32.EXE user32.dll, UpdatePerUserSystemParameters
