There are several tricks to hide data in pictures. One of the most hard one to find and completely invisible is to hide 3 bits per pixel by making the red, green and blue pixel odd or even where odd means 1 and even means 0 or just the other way around.

You can also use this scheme to literally draw some text into the picture by setting up your own scheme of odd/even pixel color translation.

If you would really would push the limits you could get quite some compressed information into it, and by using a self-built/adapted jpeg decoder you could still use image compression that can be used for websites without creating suspicion. This technique is by the way already developed and used by some to get information across that would be otherwise not possible.
