Checking File extension wont help. It is content which needs to be checked.

I presume that you are working with VS/C++.

Install FFMPEG (www.ffmpeg.org/[^]) for VS and use something like:

Use Structs AVFormatContext -> AVInputFormat and AVStream->Codec to check format of your stream.

(Please refer to FFMPEG for correct syntax and parameters).
