Shiv

Dear all,

Please advise me regarding my condition.

I think i am good in theory but when it comes to coding ,i am simply gone..no idea what to do and what not about this coding fever.

i chose dotnet due to the misconception, that it will somehow save me from lots of coding but unfortunately i was wrong.

Please assist me.
Any useful tip would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like programming is not your cup of tea, would suggest you should do that interests you - only this would bring best out of you.

Otherwise, if you want to overcome the *fever*, start with basics and write simle C# codes first. Gain confidence and move on step-by-step.

.NET does save you from a lot of coding - but it doesn''t mean you don''t have to code! It just removes the dull, buggy repetitive stuff, and encourages you to do things "properly" so that you don''t have to repeat them either.

When you start, there is a lot to learn, and it does seem daunting - just like learning to drive! When I started that, my first driving lesson ended with me driving us off the road, and stranding the car on a snowbank! I felt that I would never be able to cope with clutch, changing gear, steering, looking for other traffic and listening to the instructor all at the same time. But I persisted, and I did learn. Now, all that is "automatic" - I don''t have to think about it. It is the same with programming: when you start you know virtually nothing, so you can get discouraged very easily because it is hard to work out how to start. Relax: it does get easier. And once you get something working, it boosts your confidence, and means you find it easier to get something more complex working.

Get a book on C#, that is meant for beginners, and start at the beginning. Make a simple program that says "Hello sk1bpm3!" and work from there. It isn''t as hard as you think!

The only way to improve is practice!

Have a look at this book[^] by Charles Petzold. It is a nice easy introduction to .NET and C# coding. If you can work through this and understand it then you will probably find it fairly easy to move on to the more advanced topics. If you cannot work through this then maybe IT is not the best career path for you.
