Since this seems to be a particularly popular subject line, I thought I''d exploit it a little.

To those of you required to come up with a project for school, do not ask what we think. Why? Because we''ll tell you that you''re not much of a programmer if you can''t identify something like this on your own. After all, coming up with and implementing a solution on your own is a BIG part of the development process.

So what does this have to do with the subject line? Essentially, I DOUBT that you''ll be much of a programmer when/if you graduate. Since the bulk of these kinds of requests are coming from India, I DOUBT that many of you will be able to accomplish much more in the IT industry than vaulting to the top of the ranks of customer service departments. Lastly, I DOUBT you''ll ever be allowed anywhere near serious code - at least in the US.

I agree that I hate the general "what to do for a project" post. As someone who has been in/out of graduate school while working, it''s hard for me to keep up with all the articles/mags/journals I used to. Sometimes it would be nice to hear, "This is a hot topic right now..." to help focus my energy for a project. I''d hate to waste hours on a project/problem/ that really cannot be improved much more.
