Ok, so from your question i figure out that your EditText is getting focus while starting the activity. You can disable the focus using following command to suppress the keyboard.

getWindow().setSoftInputMode(WindowManager.LayoutParams.SOFT_INPUT_STATE_ALWAYS_HIDDEN);
