Is there an API or something similar that I can use to determine the relative popularity of two search terms. Eg query something with "cat" and "dog" and get a response {cat:250,dog:125}, indicating cats are twice as popular as dogs. The data can come from anywhere, for example, occurrences of these words in twitter posts or number of searches in Google etc.

Data updated every day would be preferable however it is not necessary. I've had a look through Yahoo and Google's API's but I can't see a way to use them to get this kind of data.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that this is for a website which needs to automatically access this data. Something like google trends would be ideal however I can't find a way to access the data using php or js.
