Finally found the right place: /etc/apache2/sites-available/default search for the

<directory /var/www/>  part, and changed it to:

<Directory /var/www/>
    Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
    AllowOverride All
    Order allow,deny
    allow from all
</Directory>
