When we create a new 2010-APPROVAL Workflow in Office 365 with "Enable Content Approval" option the workflow fails and shows an error "The workflow could not update the item, possibly because one or more columns for the item require a different type of information." But without checking "Enable Content Approval", it works.

"Require content approval for submitted items?" option in the library setting is also set to "Yes". Please note this issue is  happening in other sites or site collections as well.

Hi srabon,

转到网站设置>管理网站功能并确保您拥有网站功能"工作流程可以使用应用权限"激活。 

Go to site settings > Manage site features and make sure you have the site feature "Workflows can use app permissions" activated. 

同时禁用"在编辑之前要求签出文件吗？"选项。

Also disable the "Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited?" option.
