I am trying to separate my working database folder from the mysql program folder, and I want mysql to point my working database when it is invoked instead of the installed program folder where all lib, include, bin, etc are living. Can anybody help me on this issue? Thanks!

I am facing even more serious problem after this adversity.
My database was built in MySQL 4.1, but the version 5 was installed by admin people. Somehow mysql program is not recognizing all the tables in my db which I copied into a new folder (Window XP! by the way) from my thurm drive. It shows all the tables'' name at the command "show tables" but says "xxx table does not exist" when you do select command. I know that I have data in the tables. Can anyone help me...?
Is this problem due to the new version of mysql ?
