Things like icons and bitmaps are stored in the forms .resx file which is in XML format, if you want you can open it with a text editor.
If the forms .resx file is gone you could try to remove all references to it, as said likely suspects are icons and bitmaps, but all kinds of things could be in it.
In the past I also experienced difficulties with .resx files when upgrading older solutions, but that is so long ago that I can't remember the steps I took to fix it, it was complicated however.
Maybe it would be easier to create a new form from scratch ...
