During the latest update of the VS 2017 RC edition, my update failed and now I can't open projects anymore. There are no templates loaded either so I can't create new projects. It seems like there is a broken link somewhere, nothing worse.

I wonder how I can repair or just reinstall whatever needs to be done here. The reason why I ask is that the total download I have is 10+ GB is size, and I'd rather not do it all over again. ...or alternatively, could I just reinstall VS 2017 RC without checking any of the "modules" (UWP, ASP.NET etc)?

Sounds like it is not installed correctly if it's not in the registry. Try re-installing and see what happens. Also, since this is a Release Candidate package you should report back to Microsoft with any problems.
