WPF, MVC (which people call it by, whereas the real name is ASP.NET MVC) are two entirely different technologies and used in a total contrast. WPF is a desktop programming framework, ASP.NET MVC is a web development framework.

No framework is ever going to fade away, WPF is a much better framework and more extensible framework as compared to the old Windows Forms, and still Windows Forms is being used regularly. Every control library is still supporting Windows Forms. When I began programming, people were saying, C++ will fade away sooner because C# is here. Do you see C++ fading? Infact, with every update to the C++ specification more users are starting to try out C++.

I find this question a bit disturbing, because from a beginner's perspective these questions show that the person himself is confused as to whether learn it or not. FORTRAN, LISP, Assembly many other similar languages are not generally taught nowadays and that doesn't mean they are going to fade away. WPF and ASP.NET MVC are just kids and they are really going to evolve a lot and that makes them absolutely not valid candidates to fade away in a near future.

Take my advice: Forget about what's staying, and what's going. Just learn the languages, C# for example. Language would be used to program the framework, but then again, do not confuse yourself with, "is C# going to fade away?"
