If I have a VM running on Azure .. and if I have a pending patch which I have not yet deployed .. is there a way in which Azure informs me about the same?

If this is a windows VM and connected to internet, you can configure automatic update settings to inform you about available updates. In my understanding, Azure can't evaluate the patch level or software running on your vm
