I have SSAS Tabular Model solution. I created a simple report in Excel and same report in Power BI.

FE takes 40 milli seconds and SE takes 50 milli seconds

It is because Power BI runs DAX query and Excel runs MDX Query on same tabular model.

Is there any way where we can enable Excel also execute DAX query for tabular model so that the performance is same?

For automatic / live connection mode:

Excel doesn't have built-in DAX query generator, therefore so far MDX only (for both:Tabular and Multidimensional).
Perhaps it will come with one of future versions.

Power BI generates DAX only - even to Multidimensional model.

Short story - it is what it is, the only way around so fa is writing your own query generator.

P.S. If you're writing manual queries (not a live connection) - then you do have control of choice between DAX/MDX.
