We are having a SQL Server 2016 Always on Configuration. On the Read-Only machine we are running some queries for reporting ect.

To confirm if this is still a problem of SQL Server 2016, I would suggest you considering open a support ticket with Microsoft for better help. Dropping the statistic on the Primary node is still a best-optional workaround.
