Hi everyone

As a start-up company with almost no financial resources, we are looking at sending out emails to our potential clients and sponsors. The emails will be sent ONCE-OFF to about 9000 email addresses.

However, none of us have sufficient knowledge about email programs to do this effectively and, more importantly, not to get listed somewhere as spammers...

Can anyone suggest a workable solution please?

Sorry, but what you are describing is exactly what you are trying to avoid being tagged as: spam.

Sending 9000 unsolicited emails is pretty much the definition of "sending spam emails" so there is no real solution which won't get you (correctly) categorised as spammers.

The easiest will be to use a company already doing it!

Once off using a temporary email address to send it from will be mailinator[x]

other service companies etc include:
Your Mailing List Provider[+]
smart email 24[@]
and
I Mail Unlimited[*]
