I've been looking at Azure DR (or Site Recovery) and how it works etc..

It all seems great, but I have one question that doesn't seem to be answered anywhere...

But how would you use the Site Recovery Server in a DR scenario?. Lets say a flood. Wouldn't that also impact the Site Recovery Server that's hosted on-premise?

Failover to Azure is not an automatic process. You need to manually initiate the failover with a single click in the Azure portal. To automate you could use on-premises Orchestrator or Operations Manager to detect a virtual machine failure, and then trigger the failover using the SDK.

But how would you use the Site Recovery Server in a DR scenario? Let’s say a flood. Wouldn't that also impact the Site Recovery Server that's hosted on-premise?
- When you protect your on premise workloads using Azure Site Recovery (ASR) all your machines are replicated in Azure and these replicas are nothing but the VMs in Azure. It is a rare case scenario wherein a floods hits and the entire operations are on halt. However, you can still login to Azure portal from anywhere in the world and initiate the failover to Azure. Hope this clarifies!
