I recently installed vfp 9.0 at work the system has OS-10 and I am unable to clear the previous history from command window

The simplest way to clear history is right click on the command window, then click "clear". After that quit VFP and restart.

VFP saves the state of the command window into a file _command.prg and loads that when you start vfp9.

It's located in the same path as the resource file foxuser.dbf, so if you have a problem of it having become read only,  change file location of the foxpro resource file.

The command window content and many environmental settings can be very persistent and don't seem to allow you to change them even when using the "Set as Default" button of the options dialog is, when VFP runs in a VM, which is configured for security to never store it's state at poweroff and reset to a default VM image when being restarted. I doubt you're in that situation, but just so you know: If things seem to be stubborn, there always are reasons for an unexpected behaviour. Things might be as simple as _command.prg (and fixuser.dbf) is located in a folder you can't write to.
