I am using WOPI to allow my tenants to open and edit documents within our web application.  However, what I need for them to be able to do it take a document that they have created and add custom controls to it, which we will later use to replace with data when we render the document.  

What I would like to do is have WOPI open our Word Add-in which would fetch all of our Custom Fields and allow them to click and insert them into the document as Custom Controls.  

Problem is I don't see a way of using WOPI to open a Word Add-in.  The user would have to follow the normal model of installing it from the Store to make use of it.  That is very clunky for an application.  

Is there any way of accomplishing this without having the user install an Add-in for word?

I know I can insert Custom Controls using various APIs directly to the file (Open XML) but I cannot do it at the current position within the doc UNLESS I am using an Add-in.  That is my dilemma.
