first of all, your app will have to run and read any keyboard input that comes over that channel. FYI, scanners send data like keyboards as they usually are placed between keyboard and pc.

Now your users can scan a 'Start' barcode and as soon as you app finds the 'Start' string within the keyboard buffer, you could start the form and users can start regular scanning.
