I tried running the VHD in Virtual PC but it's giving me some issues about 64-bit not being compatible. Is it designed to run on Virtual PC? and if not, how else can I run on a Windows 7 workstation?

In general, a VHD created for Hyper-V will not work with Virtual PC.  While there are blog posts on how to migrate from Hyper-V to Virtual PC and back, I would recommend following the steps to do a native VHD boot in the "Get Started" document.
