I have installed WES7 using IBW and then entered audit mode so that I can install drivers and  applications required by my image. I then want to create an unatted.xml file, that performs some tasks like installing the product key, so that I can pass this to sysprep to re-seal the installation. However when I try to create a new answer file in ICE it always includes the embedded core and when I remove this I don't appear to be able to add any configuration items e.g. the product key. In addition if I save an answer file with just the embedded core it fails validation. What would be the best way to generate a simple unattend.xml file to pass to sysprep?

ICE is recommended, and yes, you need the Embedded Core since the core contains the settings needed for the unattended file. Just setup the Pass 3, 4, and 7 settings, and then save the file as

No files will be installed.
