I have installed VB2008 and VC++2008 on an amd athlon 64 x2 dual-core computer running windows vista home premium. I have done a web install of the two products (vb and vc++), complete with the update to .net 35. VB refuses to build forms at all. Instead, when making a new windows forms project I get the following error:


.NET Framework 2.0 update not found. The win32manifest will not be embedded.    WindowsApplication1

I have tried "repairing" .net 3.5. I have tried uninstalling .net 3.5 and installing from the 177 meg redistributable file. I consistently get the same error, and I am consistently unable to run any visual studio products. Googling has not be particularly helpful on finding a solution to this error.

Is there anything that I can do that does NOT involve pulling out the recovery discs that came with this computer and wiping out my current setup?

Hmmm...have you tried installing just 2.0 SP1?
