I'm currently thinking of automatization of the initial image creation and I'm quite new to the WES world. If I take a look at the documentation it seems that I always have to install the WES7 onto a target device, run sysprep and then capture an image. Is there a way to create the initial image w/o using a target device?

It is possible to do some work without the target, but you will not know if the device drivers load correctly until the OS is running on the target.
