You can install a standard edition server which include SQL, so you would not need a separate SQL server.

The absolute bare minimum would be 2 servers.  One for AD and one for Lync SE box.

Keep in mind too, that that would only be for basic internal uses.  Deploying an edge server requires a separate server.  Deploying persistent chat requires a separate server.
