Is it possible to create a .testsettings file in Visual Studio which references an environment managed by Lab Management? I don't believe it is, because when I select "Remote Execution" under "Roles" in the test settings editor and then select the Test Controller Lab Management is using I get the warning "The following test controller is not available...You must remove this association using the Lab Center within Microsoft Test Manager".

I understand that it's possible to run tests from Visual Studio against a Lab Environment via a build definition and am currently doing this, however I think this may have some limitations.

Consider the following scenario:

A build is queued, environment is restored to snapshot, test one passes, test two fails

Developer logs into environment, changes config setting, and now wants to re-run test two against lab environment

Does he have to do this via MTM, or is it possible to somehow create a .testsettings file that can reference a lab environment, so that he can go to "Test 2" in the "Test View" in Visual Studio and re-run that test?

Hi,

You wont be able to run tests on a lab envrionment fro visual studio.

For the scenario you have mentioned, you can rerun the tests from MTM. You will need to specify the build to use, lab environment to use and the test settings to use for running the tests.
