I'm not sure which piece of the chain is the culprit.

 

I have a 16GB Sandisk Microcruzer, formatted as NTFS (to allow for > 4GB file size).

 

I created a 13GB 'container' for TrueCrypt to store data encrypted. It was 'formatted' NTFS

 

Using SyncToy, I am echoing my Documents folder into the TrueCrypt container.

 

It's copying, but after 14 hours, only about 4GB has transferred.  The original 'format' of the TrueCrypt folder (which includes filling the 13GB file with random data) ran between 4-8MB/s which is reasonable for a USB flash drive.

 

CPU usage is practically 0%.

 

Any ideas?

Culprit maybe the TrueCrypt softwarre - it's likely doing on-the-fly encryption as SyncToy is copying over the file.

How about if you try to copy the files using drag-and-drop - without SyncToy in between. If that's taking time as well, you will know.

 

SyncToy uses the essential (non-fancy) Window's API to copy a file and create folders. That should not take this long.
