Ok , so i've been problems with ALL the web services.

The Catalog service issue was resolved by adding an identity impersonation in the web.config and adding the app pool user to the folder's secured users.

The permissions to the folder is standard for any properly setup web site/service. The changes to the Authorization Manager (AzMan) are part of the installation instructions.
