I have got the Microsoft provided sample OCS API Visual Studio examples working but I would like to provide OCS Presence information within a java web based application that I have.

How can I do this?

Unless you can call out to the Communicator automation API on the users desktop, then your best bet is to use either the CWA AJAX API if you have an OCS 2007 R1 CWA server or your other option is to write your own web service using the UCMA API and make web services calls to it from your Java app.
