VS Professional 2017 doesn't seem to accept a MySQL connector. I used MySQL for Visual Studio version 1.2.6 and ran the installer without error. Subsequently, looking in View>Server Explorer>Data Connections>Add Connections>Data Source there were no options to install a MySQL connector.

The bad news is that it will require some work by Oracle, because on the contrary to previous versions, it is not so easy as adding some entries to the Windows Registry. Visual Studio uses its own private Registry hive, see section Change: Reduce registry impact > Visual Studio registry at Changes in Visual Studio 2017 extensibility and setups need to be adapted as explained.
