I am having a problem to resolve what appears to be an authentication issue using BI reports.

The data connections and reports work without problem on the website.  When I open as a local Excel file the connection fails.

I continue to receive the message "Connection failed...   login failed for user xxx".  Even when I try to perform the login with the FarmAdmin account or any administrator account with full permissions in SharePoint and on the SQL Server database, it always fails.  SQL Server has no alias and all service agents are active, as are TCP/IP and named pipes.

Are you on the same network/subnet as the SQL server? did Excel prompted you to enter SQL Server name after you received the error?
