Yes, I'm a newbie with encoder.  I am doing IIS Smooth Streaming and it takes awhile.  Aside from that it takes even longer to upload to my server.  So, If I have 10 video clips that need to be encoded, is it possible to add another one without encoding the whole thing again?  I am using a silverlight template, so rather than encoding all eleven again just so they will show up in the template, I'd like to just encode the new one and add that to the template.  Is there anywhere else besides the default.html file that needs to be edited?

My second question related to the thumbnail image.  The first time around I left the selection as none, now I have decided that perhaps the Best Frame would be a good choice.  How would I get the encode the get that for me without re-encoding the whole thing?  After that, do I just specify it as the value for the splash screen source in the default.html?  What is the format for the URI?  if it is in the same directory, can I just specify the file name?

For your first question, yes, you just need to enter another <PlaylistItem> for the new file. That being said, it can be kind of a pain to enter all that data manually. If you save the job, and add a new media item, only that item will be re-encoded. If you start a new job you can simply select source profile which will bypass encoding as well as you are asking for the same output format as the input format.

This same information is true for thumbnails. Wanting a different thumbnail wont cause a full re-encode. It will take less than a second to grab those images.
