Hello,

I am new to the server field and have installed server 2008 r2 and am stuck at the Initial Configuration Tasks for "Configure Networking." I have unchecked IPv6 and configured the properties of IPv4 to assign a static IP address, subnet mask, and I have inputted the default gateway as my address for my router.  As soon as i do this I lose internet connection; the exclamation point comes up.  When I allow the OS to automatically fix the issue it places me back to dhcp and then I have internet again. How do I retain my internet when I use Static? 

I have a Netgear 300n router and I assigned my server an ip address within the dhcp range.

All advice is greatly appreciated.
