First let me say that I am reasonably new to working with Crystal. I have VS2005 web solution, and I created a new Crystal report and placed it on an ASP.Net page using the CrystalReportViewer control. It works really well on my machine.

However, when I tried to move it up to the server, it wouldn't work - the reason is that the server only has Crystal 9 installed. The VS2005 process creates the report in Crystal 10 and sets all the settings in the config files the same (correct?).

So the question is, what do I do now? Is there a way that I can get the report to work? Or should I install Crystal 9 on my machine and work with that? Moving the server up to Crystal 10 isn't an option.

Well, the only way you will be able to work with Crystal 9 on your development machine is to use Visual Studios 2003 or earlier.  Otherwise you will have to install the Crystal Runtimes to your server.  You can have both Crystal Reports 9 and 10 coexisting on the same machine, you just have to be careful with the .NET framework setup as the version of 10 you have (10.2) requires the .NET 2.0 framework.
