I have installed the free Encoder, the SDK, .net 4.

When I open the screen capture it lets me pick an area. I click record and the area selected turns white.

The video is saved with no audio and a white screen.

What am I missing?

What is your video card and what is the driver version?  Are you using the newest driver? 

Also, you can try turn off the flashing boundary in settings->others?
