Once you''re confident with the basics of C and familiar with the C library functions, move on to C++ and Object Oriented Programming.
While C remains the basis of most of what we do it really isn''t enough on it''s own anymore for anything new or commercial scale. There''s little or nothing out there now being written from scratch in C but without the knowledge gained from C you can''t easily understand C++ or even C#.
The best way to make use of what you''re learned is to take it the next level and Abhinav is right of course practice, practice.

I guess you read a few books but did not practice - so practice, practice!
Nothing else will help you.

Once you feel comfortable with C, you might want to start on any small project you feel you are comfortable with.
