In the Acceptance Criteria area there are file links (\\***\***.Txt)  and anytime one is clicked, it gives a protocol error and won't open at all (the file link is the correct location and used to work.  Instead you have to copy the link and go to a file folder to open it, which is time consuming.  This used to work and now it doesn't.  

Any ideas on how to fix?

Thank you for posting here.

Did you meet the error "Opening this protocol is not permitted"? As Microsoft said in this link:

"We have investigated the issue and the behavior is by design due to security concerns. I am sorry to let you know that we are not going to fix this, Our recommendation is to store the files in SharePoint,SkyDrive (or any other cloud storage application), and link to those locations. Sorry for not having a better answer"

So I think we could not open the linked file in TFS now, but you still could open it when you use visual studio. And you could also vote for or comment on the uservoice, TFS product Team is listening to your voice there:
