I have created a custom dashboard for one of the projects in our deployment, the dashboard is no longer utilized and I would like to remove it.

unfortunately I have not found a way to do this in the UI for 2015.3. I see Team Services and TFS "15" have an intuitive and easy to access UI for this function.
