When right clicking a backlog item on the backlog items board I can add a task or a test. However, when the PBI is on the board in the sprint, these options do not appear when right clicking. Is there a reason why these can only be added to board items on the backlog items board and not when in a sprint? Is add task or test to an item when in a sprint planned for a future release of VSTS?

In Sprint board, you cannot add the task and test. In Scrum methodology, your team can view progress made to backlog items and tasks from the sprint task board. Your task board provides a visualization of flow and status of each sprint task. With it, you can focus on the status of backlog items as well as work assigned to each team member. It also summarizes the total amount of remaining work to complete for a task or within a column.
