In my experience, updating VS 2013 v1 to v5 had no bad effect on existing application.

Please try it in this way:
(1) create a system restore point (against a rainy day)
     Create a system restore point
     https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027538/windows-create-a-system-restore-point

(2) make a backup all of your application (folders, files) 

(3) update 1 to 5
If something wrong occurs in your application, you can revert v1 from the restore point and restore your application from the backup.
