I haven't been able to import more than about 2k raw files to EM2 SP1. I have updated Quick Time to the current version 7.6.2. Is there something else I should try?

Hi Gib, Almost always when you can't import more than about 2K files, you are building full screen previews in the largest size and highest resolution. In that case, the catalog stores not only the thumbnails but the preview image as well. There are two reasons to use previews: 1. Rendering speed in Media view - most commonly important for files stored on external media. 2. Offline viewing. They are absoutely essential for offline viewing. I've found, though, that for my purposes, Medium quality previews is sufficient. I only do initial edits - throwing out obvious out of focus or badly composed shots - offline. For later edits, I really need to view the actual media file anyway. Switching to medium quality previews make a huge difference in the space each image takes in the catalog.
