Many years ago I stopped using VS because it changed code and didn't tell me. I am working on a project doing changes to masterpages. I find Expression Web 4 (EW4) does the best render of masterpages, especially when they are nested.
I noticed my "head" tag had been changed, it had an ID and was set to runat="Server", both of these attributes were missing. So I put them in again and saved, EW4 then removed the attributes again. So I thought I'd download the latest VWD 2012, maybe its using the same rendering as EW4. Unfortunately it doesn't, but I found it also changed the head tag when it saved.
Neither product put a squiggly red line under the tag to say it was wrong, both removed the ID and runat attributes when you saved the file.
What else is it changing and why is it modifying my code?
I now have to throw out all my work and start again using VS 2010.
What happens is, after you save something removes my attributes, you can see this as the * doesn't disappear after the save, instead the code gets modified, the next time I do a save I lose the attributes from my head tag.
WHAT ELSE AM I LOSING AND WHY IS MY CODE BEING CHANGED WHEN THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT?
