I have just used the Message Analyzer (ver1.1)to resolve some network issues and I noticed the SQL Server trace providers:

MSSQLSERVER Trace, sqlserver, sqlos,etc. However when I configure a live trace on a SQL 2014 Server, they collect no data. Is there any documentation on these providers? Do they require any special setting or other providers to function?

Did you enable any keywords, tasks, or levels when you started the trace? For manifest-based ETW loggers, you can use WEVTUTIL GP <provider name> to see what it you can specify
