In a working environment , while trouble shooting performance relates issue I find out that none of the web applications have hostheaders defined ( probably at the time of creation) because when I use the below script, value for the ServerBindings is blank. I can see the host name in IIS > edit bindings but it can be entered after web application was created as well.

So , question is , in your experience what could be the down side of web application created with no host header value ? Can this cause any performance related issue ?

I had this discussion with MS as well and in some cases i was told its ok and other it can cause issue with https set up and performance. Not much on line but i might write up on this soon after done with this.

Note : These web apps are not for HNSC at all, all have regular path based site collection in it.
