When working for corporate and medium businesses licencing issues don't generally concern me as someone else looks after compliance.

For Individuals and home office licencing tends to be obvious,  however I'm currently looking at an SMB with a win 2000 server, 3 PC's, 2 More at another location that need to be updated.

Going from XP to win 7 with a hardware refresh and change backup from tape would be the simple solution. But looking at their requirements then spending £ on server and software and use existing devices for access would be more appropriate for them. We're only talking 3 or 5 users tops, looking at licencing and for a non volume business no idea where to start in working out costs, any resources to help ?

even though you're looking for smaller licensing than they offer, I'm sure the people here can point you in the right direction for production use licensing: http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/contact-us.aspx.  For TechNet, we'd be talking about TechNet Subscription licensing in this forum, but thats not what you want since TechNet doesn't license production use.
