I have 1 test plan for a sprint iteration and within it I have 2 requirement based suites for 2 different PBI's.
1 - is for testing X
2 - is for testing Y
Essentially most of the test cases are going to be replicas except for small differences and so I want to clone the test cases I've created from the 1st suite to the 2nd suite so they are new test cases and I can edit some stuff without affecting the original
cases (so I can't add existing). I didn't want to copy them as there's loads and I'd be there for ever changing links etc on the new cases.
Try as I might I couldn't find a way, and apparently in test manager you can only clone test cases from one suite to another if they're within a different test plan.
So the only way I could do it, was to:
create a new plan
clone tests from suite 1 in plan 1 to suite 1 in plan 2,
add existing tests case into suite 2 plan 1 from suite 1 plan 2
then delete suite 1 Plan 2 and archive plan 2

Does anyone know why you can only clone across Plans? I can't think of any good reason at all, it just seems nonsense. Is there anyway to get around it or a suggestion for an easier way than I have described? I tried using command line to trick it but that didn't work.
