Situation:

Permissions on our SharePoint site are a mess and we plan on fixing them at a later date. At the moment there are approx. 500 individuals/groups listed on our site-level permissions. Every time we create a new list/library we are required to
'stop inheriting permissions' from the parent to create custom permissions on the list/library. The problem is, when we break this inheritance we are left with about 500 people/groups to select individually and remove them from the permissions.
Also, we do not have the option to use the select all checkbox to remove people because our site crashes. We are only able to remove about 30-40 people at a time. As you can imagine, this is a pretty time-consuming process.

When managing permissions on a list/library, is there an out of the box way to select multiple checkboxes at a time instead if clicking on each checkbox individually? The traditional methods of holding Ctrl or Shift don't seem to work.

Do you mean that holding Shift does not work(This works in my environemnt)? You do not have the option to select all checkbox?
